Show Your Roots

You Are Not A Unicorn

Charlotte has a long, rich history, many people, including some natives,  fail to learn or fully appreciate, and it's time to change that.

The Indigenous Catawba Indians set up trade routes along what is now know as "Center City" at Trade & Tryon, and that small act of simple commerce, communication, and hospitality has grown into the city we know today.

Originally established as Charlotte Town in 1768, and named for Queen Charlotte of Mecklenburg, this city has far more history than it is given credit.

The citizens of Mecklenburg declared independence from England in 1775 with The Mecklenburg Declaration of Independence, and the American Revolution ended here when the Tar Heels fought off General Cornwallis,  who dubbed the region a Hornet's Nest of Rebellion, and why the Hornet is so significant to our city.

With this collection, Charlotteans old and new can show their pride for their city.  For the roots that are generations old, or for the fresh new roots they may have recently planted.

It's Not Just A Logo

Roots Blue.png

Charlotte Roots is not just a logo for Charlotteans to wear.

Long before Charlotte was the city it is today, this area was a meeting place.  A hub for trade and communication.   A place where different indigenous tribes came together to share information, textiles, food and news from other parts of the state. and other parts of the east coast. From Maine to Florida, this area, this place, our Queen City was the central meeting point and a place where people came together.

As a Fourth Generation Charlottean, I would like to believe  the hospitality of those who lived in this area before us, has rooted itself in the Native Charlotteans here today.   The Charlotte Roots is about pride, hospitality, inclusion, community, and most of all love for the roots of the

City of Charlotte.
